What over 125 Years of Banking Really Means…
Rocky Mountain Bank & Trust has been in business for over a century, and through this time we have become well-versed in the highs and lows of the American economy. Times were hard during the Great Depression of the 1930’s. The stock market crashed, jobs were impossible to find, and banks were closing left and right. Daily life was a trial. Not a thing went to waste: stews could be made of chicken feet, frayed towels could be cut into washcloths, squirrels and rabbit could become dinner… any way to scrimp, save, and survive. But fear drove so many to radical action.
With huge banks failing, panic struck. People lost faith in the security of banks, so many chose to withdraw what they had. It became commonplace to store funds in cans, in the mattress, or anywhere else deemed safer than the banks they had initially trusted with their currency. These “bank runs” were detrimental to many banks, (about 9,000 failed during the 1930’s) but Rocky Mountain Bank & Trust remained.
Our humble beginnings as the Bank of Florence in 1891 have grown into what is now named Rocky Mountain Bank & Trust. Though our humility remains, we have flourished throughout the years, and continue to play an important part in the economic growth and prosperity of the community. We have been serving Rocky Mountain customers for over 125 years, as our location has remained the same since 1919. So, when you come to see us, you’ll be setting foot on the same ground, and with the same goal, as someone may have over 125 years ago… securing your financial future.
